Fantastic Third Graders!

I am so excited to get started on a fantastic year in third grade! The relationship between families, students and school is a huge factor in each student's success. I strive to make myself available via email and phone whenever families need me, in addition to providing some general information on this website. By keeping in close contact and reinforcing consistent and positive messages, together we will help your child reach beyond their full potential in Third Grade!

Here's a little information about me:

I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, and was an avid reader of fantasy and comedy books. I then enrolled in college at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon, and graduated with a degree in political science. I then moved back to California to teach fifth grade in San Francisco and Oakland for three years. While in Oakland my wife and I were engaged to be married, just before she was admitted into a graduate program in Charlottesville, Virginia! So I moved to Virginia for two years, where I taught 4th and 5th grade at a highly effective school, and improved my teaching of writing. Over the last 3 years I have been teaching at Campbell Hill, where I've been excited to grow in how I connect with families and learning to teach reading and writing in a way that all students learn!

Some things I love:

  • KIDS!  My son Leo was born last year, and you are sure to see him in pictures and in person throughout the school year. What an exciting time!
  • Coffee! Your child will certainly see me with my coffee mug in hand every morning as they walk in the room.
  • Running! I'm training for my third marathon this fall, and I'm hoping to have the class help me plan out a running schedule for the year.
  • Ultimate Frisbee! I am on a competitive Ultimate Frisbee team here in Seattle, and occasionally work Frisbee into math problems.
  • Dogs! I have a rambuncious little mutt named Toby, who I run with a LOT.
  • Books! I'm a huge advocate for reading what you love, and for me that means non-fiction and comedy. My favorite author is Jon Scieszka.
