Dimmitt Middle School Music Survey

Mrs. Murphy

Welcome to Music Survey at Dimmitt Middle School. My name is Mrs. Murphy and I'm excited to be your teacher this semester!

In this class, you are going to learn what music is at its most fundamental level and explore the concept: “What is music?” During this course, you will explore current popular music, learn how to read basic rhythms using drumsticks and body percussion, explore some world music, learn about principles of sound, discover how sound enhances movies, and compose your own music.

It takes hard work, determination, focus, and effort. I will be expecting a lot from you this semester. I know you have the ability to rise to the challenge and understand more about music. Let's get started!

I use Standards Based Grading in Music Survey:

4 Exceeding the standard at the expected level for this point in the year
3 Meeting the standard at the expected level for this point in the year
2 Approaching standard at the expected level for this point in the year
1 Attempting the standard at the expected level for this point in the year
IE Insufficient Evidence: the student has not completed enough work to determine performance level
