Camp Seymour

Every spring 5th graders have the chance to go to Camp Seymour.  Camp Seymour is a YMCA camp located near Gig Harbor.  Please check out the website for camp -  know that the summer programs are different than the education programs - so definitely look through the website.  Students who attend the educational program receive a discount if they attend summer camp!  At Camp Seymour 5th graders have many learning opportunities that they do not receive in the classroom.  Some examples of the classes that 5th graders attend are

Canoeing - students learn how to correctly get in and out of a canoe, how to paddle, and how to stay safe!

Marine Science - students learn all about the creatures that live in Puget Sound, then they get the chance look at and touch animals such as sea stars, crabs, sea cucumbers and other interesting creatures!

Climbing Wall - students learn how to safely climb a 37 foot high rock wall!

Hiking - when camping you have to go hiking!

Archery - students are taught the safe and accurate way to shoot targets with a bow and arrow

Cooperative Learning - students play cooperative games and work their way through a challenge course together

Also while at camp students who have worked hard throughout the school year and completed their 40 book reading project will get to have some free time each day while at camp.  During this time students can go swimming in the heated pool, play on the ball courts, touch reptiles in the reptile room, among other activities.  We have whole group activities such as arts and crafts, campfires, s'mores, etc!!!

Camp is a safe place.  Students are under supervision at all times by adults.  The cabins have electricity,  heat, a shower and bathroom and bunk beds.

We can't wait for camp and hope you plan on joining us too - we need many parent chaperones to make it a success!
