Favorite books summer 2013.jpg

MAY 6- SEPT. 6, 2013

For the past 2 years our students have been #1 in Washington State in the Read for the World Record. Our goal is to be in the top 20 in the entire world this year as well as maintain our position as # 1 for the number of minutes read in Washington State.  Each student has a log-in name and password and they can enter their minutes as they read.  If you don't have access to a computer -- then keep track of the minutes on a piece of paper and enter them at school.

You can track how our students are doing with their reading minutes by logging onto the Scholastic website:  http://www.scholastic.com/ups/campaigns/src-2013.  As of May 7, 2013, Highlands E.S. is #41 in the world!  Keep reading Huskies!!

A Culture of Reading

One of my main goals is to help students enjoy reading good books. At Highlands students take turns giving Book Talks during our morning announcements and sharing good books they've read. Checkout the link I've posted! This link will generate lists of good books to read. Try it out!

Also, check out the Scholastic.com website to find lots of fun things for kids to do with books and reading!  A person becomes a better reader when they READ, READ, READ!!!

Happy reading!
